Our Story: From Heritage to Workshop

The Craft

My journey as a woodworker began in childhood, in my grandfather's workshop. A master craftsman who contributed to the restoration of Windsor Castle, he taught me that every detail matters — from the precision of a mortise and tenon joint to the final hand-applied finish. Those early lessons gave me a deep respect for traditional woodworking and a standard I've never been willing to compromise on.

The Years Between

Before returning to the bench, I spent years in the fast-paced world of advertising — travelling the world, working on global campaigns, sitting in rooms full of noise. That chapter gave me something unexpected: a profound appreciation for quiet. For objects that are considered, unhurried, and made with intention. For the things we bring into our homes that ask nothing of us except to be used and enjoyed.

Moku Design Studio

Moku — the Japanese word for wood, for silence, for stillness.

I founded this studio to bring those two worlds together. Pieces that honour the legacy of traditional craft while feeling completely at home in the contemporary world. Each one is made by hand in our workshop in rural Sussex, finished with natural oils and waxes, and built to last long beyond the moment you buy it.

This is not mass production. Every piece that leaves this workshop is one of a kind. The grain, the finish, the weight of it in your hands — these things cannot be replicated.
