A cutting board is one of the most frequently used objects in the kitchen. It becomes part of daily rituals without drawing attention to itself — preparing food, sharing meals, and gathering in quiet moments around the table.
At Moku Design Studio, we believe that objects used so often deserve to be both beautiful and thoughtfully made.
The Riverstone Board is born from that belief. Not as a conventional chopping board, but as an object shaped by material, form and intention.
A Material with Purpose
The Riverstone Board is crafted from carefully selected coconut timber, a material chosen for both its character and its strength. It is harvested from mature coconut palms that have reached the end of their fruit-bearing life, giving new purpose to a resource that would otherwise go unused.
The grain is rich and varied, carrying natural movement through the surface. Its density provides excellent resistance to everyday use, allowing the board to develop character over time rather than wear.
No two Riverstone Boards are ever the same. Each carries its own markings, tone and subtle variation.
Shaped by the Tree
Every Riverstone Board begins as a full-width slab of coconut timber. Rather than cutting away the natural edges, we work with them. The live edges are preserved and shaped into the flowing form that gives the board its name. The silhouette is not imposed but discovered, following the natural line of the material itself.
The result is a form that feels organic and unforced — a quiet reference to river stones shaped over time by water and movement.
Each board is cut from a single slab rather than assembled from strips, allowing the grain to run uninterrupted across the surface. What might normally be removed becomes part of the design language itself.
Designed for Longevity
Good design is not about immediacy. It is about endurance.
The density of coconut timber allows the Riverstone Board to withstand years of use while developing a soft patina that only natural materials can achieve. With simple care and occasional oiling, it is designed to remain in use for decades rather than seasons.
Longevity, for us, is not a feature. It is a responsibility.
Natural Materials for Modern Kitchens
In recent years, there has been growing awareness around the materials used in everyday kitchen tools. As plastic boards age and wear, they can shed microscopic particles through repeated use. While research into the long-term implications continues, many people are choosing to return to natural materials where possible.
Wood has been used in kitchens for generations. It is renewable, repairable and familiar. The Riverstone Board embraces these qualities without compromise.
More Than a Cutting Board
The Riverstone Board moves easily between preparation and presentation. Its sculpted form allows it to hold food as naturally as it supports it — bread, fruit, cheese or shared dishes placed directly onto its surface.
It is designed not only for use, but for presence. An object that remains on the table as often as it is used.
Made Slowly, Meant to Last
At Moku Design Studio, we are not interested in disposable objects or fleeting design cycles. We believe that the most sustainable objects are those made to endure — to age, to soften, and to remain part of everyday life.
The Riverstone Board follows that principle quietly.
Simple. Grounded. Timeless.
Because the objects we return to most often are rarely the loudest ones in the room.
